Wu Man lute player

Wu Man, a virtuoso from China's Central Conservatoire of Music rehearsing the pipa.

The pipa is a pear-shaped lute with four strings. The current form goes back as far as the seventh century, the name pipa another five hundred years.

Born in 1963, Wu Man is one of the most outstanding pipa players and the first ever holder of a Master's degree in the pipa. She is a member of the New York 'Music from China' ensemble.
