Traditional Kazakh singer

A traditional Kazakh singer of the Aksai Grasslands in 1973. In the background you can see the traditional house made of felt: a yurt.

The Aksai Chin is on the border of Xinjiang and Xizang (Tibet) Provinces and its borders are disputed by India and Pakistan to the south west as it forms the northern extension of Kashmir.

Many of the high mountains (over 6,000 metres) in this area have never been climbed.
