Xiao Daocheng, a man with family connections back to Han times was a Buddhist and set up the short lived Qi Dynasty ending in the siege of Nanjing and the death of 80,000 people. The sad pattern of imperial slaughter of near relatives to try to eliminate rival claimants to the throne continued unabated.
