Dr Hiu Man Chan’s recommendation:
July is a busy month for the debate about Hong Kong in the UK. As we have observed, most of media coverages are biased and fragmentary. They do not report the complexity and deep societal issues that Hong Kong as a capitalist city has been facing for a long time. Some interest groups of course also see opportunities to foreground their continuous agenda with Hong Kong and the new arrivals being used, only as a tool. As we continue to believe here at the UK-China Film Collab, a film says a thousand words. Life Without Principle (2011) portraits very well about the real problems that Hong Kong face. This reviewing experience will certainly make you more informed with necessary knowledge to question future media coverages about this special administrative region of China.
