From Pith Paper Painting to the Thirteen Hongs of Canton: Sharing Stories about the Maritime Silk Road

The China National Tourist Office (CNTO) London and partners will co-present an online talk about Pith paper painting. SACU Vice President Dr Frances Wood will talk with Mr Alastair Blackburn and experts in Guangzhou in this latest edition of “Rediscover China in the UK series”.

 

This event will be hosted by Dr Frances Wood, who is a well-known sinologist and Vice-President of the Society for Anglo Chinese Understanding. Mr Alastair Blackburn who was a British collector of pith paper paintings, Dr Cunjie Cheng, who was a Chinese expert on pith paper paintings, the curator of the Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen’s Mansion, and Mr Heng Wang, who was honorary curator of Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Museum will have lectures and dialogues. By sharing the story behind the pith paper paintings, following the history of pith paper paintings and the current status of research, explaining collections of the Guangzhou Thirteen Hongs Museum, the audience will look back at the history of Chinese and Western civilisations exchange.

 

This event is organised by China National Tourist Office (CNTO) London, the UK Research and Development Centre for Chinese Traditional Culture (UKCTC), China Travel Service & Information Centre (CTSIC).
