SACU is pleased to announce a new monthly film club in collaboration with UK-China Film Collab (UCFC). Members are invited to watch a curated film each month and to participate in an online discussion. The forum will be casually moderated by Dr Hiu Man Chan, a SACU member and also Founder & Director of UCFC. SACU Reading Group on May Fourth Writers and their writing – Monthly Discussion Meeting

We will continue to discuss the writings of Ding Ling 丁玲 based on two short stories, “Shanghai, Spring 1930 – Part 2” and “When I was in Xia Village” (1940) at our next group meeting. Ding Ling made the transition from writing about self-indulgent bourgeois women to one who observed at close hand the life of working people, particularly the peasants in the countryside. She became a feminist writer within the ranks of the communist community in Yan’an and an influential literary figure throughout her life.   New participants to the group are welcome!
