SACU/Peking University Friendship and Understanding Essay/Multimedia Awards Ceremony  takes place online. SACU members have worked with schools to encourage young people in the UK to explore and engage with Anglo-Chinese friendship and understanding. Professor Sun Hua will join from Beijing. SACU Vice President Frances Wood is chair of the judging panel and will be announcing the winning entries. SACU is grateful to Peking University in sponsoring this competition

All SACU members are welcome to join with the students from both the UK and China for this year's Awards Ceremony of the Essay/Art Competition, organised jointly by SACU and Peking University. The SACU/ Peking University Essay Competition began in 2015 as part of SACU’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. SACU Reading Group on May Fourth Writers and their writing – Monthly Discussion Meeting

We will continue to discuss the writings of Ding Ling 丁玲 based on two short stories, “Shanghai, Spring 1930 – Part 2” and “When I was in Xia Village” (1940) at our next group meeting. Ding Ling made the transition from writing about self-indulgent bourgeois women to one who observed at close hand the life of working people, particularly the peasants in the countryside. She became a feminist writer within the ranks of the communist community in Yan’an and an influential literary figure throughout her life.   New participants to the group are welcome!
